Yeah, Kikai and Mukora are definitely right.  Trust me, I've seen that cutscene like thirty times. ;)

lol. I always thought it may have been the name of a disgraced quarian. Said quarian's name became an insulting word after hundreds of years. Possible?
Actually, to be honest, I think the same thing.  The way it's spelled says volumes-every Quarian name seems to take on that format.

Tali'Zorah
Rael'Zorah
Kal'Reegar
Veetor'Nara
Chikk'tika (I think I spelled that wrong again...)

There is always that possiblity.

  • Pro Quarian.
Bosh'tet would be some sort of Quisling for the quarians?

Interesting theory. :talihappy:

Maybe Bosh'tet was a Benedict Arnold sort of character.

From Mass Effect Wiki:

Language
Now that the quarians are reduced to a small, insular population they have one common language. Such words as are known have slipped out from intra-quarian conversation.

■nedas nowhere
■tasi no-one
■vas [ship-name] crew of
■nar [ship-name] child of
■keelah exclamation
■keelah se'lai possibly a religious statement, sometimes used in the same terms as a benediction (see above)
■bosh'tet curse/insult, likely being relative to "son-of-a-bitch" or "bastard".

tasi, from the book Ascension.

Spoiler for Hiden:
In the book, Golo (an exiled Quarian), essentially manages to arrange a deal to trade some vital supplies for the flotilla.  The Cyniad-the Idenna's scout ship, is the ship sent to help broker the deal.  The Cyniad's crew doesn't realize Golo is working with Cerberus to help Cerberus infiltrate the Flotilla.  In the end, the rover with the supplies is actually rigged to explode, and one crew is killed. The other three who didn't die in the blast get shot down in some manner by Cerberus operatives (one is most notably a sniper, and he goes overkill).  The operatives on the ground and Golo take the suits off the dead Quarians and use them to disguise themselves, enter the Quarian's rover, and return to the scout ship.  The operatives kill all but the Pilot, Hilo'Jaa. Hilo is understanably pissed, realizing that they were backstabbed.  Knowing Golo was behind this, and knowing he's there (because Golo says his full name) and Hilo says he isn't worthy of that name and calls him "Golo'Nekk vas Nedas nar Tasi.  Then Golo kicks in Hilo's visor.

tl;dr Hilo insulted him by calling him Golo'Nekk vas Nedas nar Tasi...Golo'Nekk...crew of nowhere, child of no one.

I am going to say the Wiki site is wrong for now because Bosh'tet can be used as a joke. I think it is more akin to the Japanese Baka, meaning idiot or stupid. Especially since Tali once called Shepard a Bosh'tet while blushing reminds me of when Japanese girls will call someone Baka when they are embarrassed. Just like Bosh'tet, Baka is normally an insult but can be used in a blushing "don't say things like that" kind of tone.
